How My Work Is Made

Let me share with you how my work is made. I create my work by combining the three main hand building techniques, pinch pots, slab building and coiling. I enjoy pushing the clay beyond it’s usual boundaries to create something unique and this is true of my current work.

Each piece is individually made with the inside decoration built in as I go. Due to this my work is single fired, meaning it goes in the kiln just once whereas most ceramics are fired first, have glazes added and are fired a second time to finish it.

It’s a risky process but it’s the only way to get the intricate decoration inside my pieces.
