Coiling Masterclass
Coiling Masterclass (Improvers)
Take your coiling beyond the basics and learn how to build stronger, more ambitious forms with confidence — with guided support throughout.
Coiling is my absolute favourite hand-building technique because it’s so versatile: you can create almost anything with it, from a simple bowl to an abstract wall piece or a full figurative sculpture. The key is learning how to work with coils in a way that suits what you’re making — not what you think the “right” method is.
We’ll start with quick demonstrations of a range of approaches, then you’ll spend most of the session working on your own piece (ideally something you’d find challenging without support), with plenty of guidance, troubleshooting and tips as you build.
This class is for:
- Makers who have tried coiling before and want to develop their skills further
- Anyone ready to move beyond the traditional “stacked circles” approach
- People who want support to plan and build a more complex coiled form
You’ll learn:
- How to vary coil thickness and length to change structure and movement
- Different ways to use coils (not just in circles) to open up new forms
- Joining, shaping and strengthening techniques to help your work hold together as it grows
- Practical problem-solving so you can tackle more ambitious coiled pieces independently
