After more than 30 years working with clay, I’ve realised that the most valuable thing I can help someone develop is not simply technique.

It’s confidence in their own creative voice.

So while advanced hand-building techniques and technical guidance are woven throughout the course, the real focus is helping you discover what you want to make — and supporting you as you explore it.

Every maker approaches clay differently.

That’s not something to correct.
It’s something to embrace.

There are no prescribed weekly projects.
No pressure to make work that looks like mine.
No single “right answer.”

Instead, this course offers a supportive space to:

• experiment,
• explore ideas,
• develop confidence,
• learn through testing and mistakes,
• and build a deeper understanding of your own creative process.

What the course includes

Weekly live Zoom sessions

Six weekly 90-minute sessions combining:

• discussion,
• demonstrations,
• technical guidance,
• creative development,
• and supportive group critique.

Each session is responsive to the group, meaning the course naturally evolves around the interests, questions and discoveries of the makers taking part.

No two cohorts will ever be exactly the same.

Weekly creative themes

Themes may include:

• exploration and experimentation,
• developing personal direction,
• expanding technical possibilities,
• surface and form,
• learning to critique your own work,
• and building confidence in your creative decisions.

The structure is intentionally flexible, allowing space for curiosity, play, questions and unexpected discoveries.

A private WhatsApp group

Between sessions, you’ll have access to a supportive WhatsApp group where you can:

• share progress,
• ask questions,
• discuss ideas,
• celebrate successes,
• troubleshoot problems,
• and support one another throughout the course.

This ongoing connection helps keep momentum and encourages experimentation between sessions.

A different approach to learning ceramics

Many ceramics courses focus on teaching people how to make a particular object.

This course is about helping you become a more independent and confident maker.

Copying has its place and can be a useful learning tool. But over time, real creative growth comes from learning how to explore your own ideas, reflect on your work honestly, and develop a practice that feels personal and meaningful.

Mistakes are welcomed here.

I’ve been working with clay for over 30 years, specialising in hand building and creative development through ceramics.

While technical skills matter deeply, what continues to inspire me most is helping people discover what they want to make — and giving them the confidence to pursue it.

Because the most exciting ceramics work rarely comes from trying to make someone else’s work perfectly.
