Spiky nature seed

A small, protective pod with a secret at its centre. Spiky Nature Seed is a palm-sized ceramic sculpture with a richly textured, lava-glazed outer shell and a dramatic opening ringed with porcelain spikes — like a natural defence system guarding what lies within. It’s intensely tactile and made to be held, turned and explored, revealing an interior world of muted colour, pattern and quiet complexity.

The piece plays with contrast and duality: rugged and refined, guarded and inviting, strength and fragility. Those crisp white spikes create a sense of tension at the threshold, encouraging you to look deeper — past the surface — to discover the inner beauty and detail.

Part of my Potential Inside collection, this sculpture is inspired by seed pods and the idea that all living things carry hidden potential. A small but striking artwork for a windowsill, shelf or mantle, and a perfect conversation piece for collectors (and thoughtful gift-givers).

Materials & finish: Hand-built stoneware and porcelain. Textured lava glaze exterior; coloured slips and glazes within; porcelain spikes.
